The United States has canceled Hong Kong’s special trade facility because of China’s passage of secu

It is learned that US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order in this regard. From now on, Hong Kong will be treated like mainland China, Trump said.

He also signed a bipartisan law imposing sanctions on Chinese officials involved in Hong Kong’s security legislation. China has said it will retaliate against the United States.

Since the British colony of Hong Kong was ceded to China in 1996, the territory has enjoyed unique independence under the “one country, two principles” policy, which was not the case in mainland China.

Hong Kong has enjoyed a special status since the 1974 agreement between China and the United Kingdom. But many Hong Kong residents feel that the new security law recently imposed by Beijing will curtail their freedom.

Trump told a news conference at the White House’s Rose Garden that his executive order would end Hong Kong’s special privileges. There will be no special facilities, no special economic system and no export of sensitive technology, ”he said.

In May, Trump indicated that Hong Kong’s special status would be revoked.

Trump also said he had signed another bill, the Hong Kong Autonomy Act. The bill was passed unanimously in the US Congress earlier this month.

He said the law would take action against individuals and organizations involved in undermining Hong Kong’s independence.

In a statement, the Chinese Foreign Ministry condemned the US move. They called on Washington not to interfere in China’s internal affairs.

The ministry said Chinese authorities would also impose counter-sanctions on US institutions and individuals.
