The Taliban has pardoned outgoing Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. Khalilur Rahman Haqqani, a senior leader of the group, said this in an interview with Pakistani media Geo TV on Sunday.
After the Taliban reached the outskirts of Kabul, Ashraf Ghani fled the presidential palace with “cars and bags full” of money. Initially, he fled Afghanistan to neighboring Tajikistan or Uzbekistan.
Later, news of his going to Oman was also heard. “We have pardoned Ashraf Ghani, Amrullah Saleh and Hamdullah Mohib,” the Taliban leader said on Wednesday (August 16th). The three were at loggerheads with the Taliban over religion.
“From our side, we have forgiven everyone; From the generals to the common people who are fighting against us.
Haqqani added that those who are fleeing are not doing well. The ‘enemies’ are spreading rumors that the Taliban will take revenge on them. Tajiks, Balochs, Hazaras and Pashtuns are all our brothers. All Afghans are our brothers. So they can return to the country if they want.
