Palestine wants Erdogan’s help

The Palestinian Authority has sought the help of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his efforts for internal solidarity and election planning. The Palestinian news agency Wafa says Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has spoken by telephone with the Turkish president.

Earlier this month, Palestinian political parties reached an agreement to end internal divisions. They also agreed on the principle of peaceful transfer of power through free and fair elections.

During the talks, Abbas briefed Erdogan on recent talks with Hamas and Fatah, the Palestinian liberation movement. They also discussed the US administration’s pressure on Palestinians and other groups. During the telephone conversation, Mahmoud Abbas asked the Turkish president to send observers to the Palestinian elections to help with the election process.

Mahmoud Abbas thanked the Turkish president for contacting Kosovo and Serbia not to open offices and embassies in Jerusalem.
