Malaysia’s new Prime Minister Ismail Sabri

Ismail Sabri Yakub has been nominated as the ninth Prime Minister of Malaysia. Muhiuddin Yassin resigned on Monday and was replaced by Ismail Sabri.

Earlier, Ismail Sabri served as senior deputy defense minister in Muhiuddin Yassin’s cabinet. Young D-Partuan Agang Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah announced his appointment in a statement issued by Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, the regulator of the royal family.

In 2006, he was appointed Minister of Youth and Sports under Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, and a year later, under Najib Razak, he was appointed Minister of Internal Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism.

Before being appointed as the Minister of Rural and Regional Development in 2015, he was made the Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industries in 2013.
