Chinese researchers have made different claims about the origin of the corona virus. They claim that the source of the epidemic is not in China, but in India or Bangladesh.
A recent study published by the Chinese Academy of Sciences claims that. The study was published in the Lancet, an influential UK-based medical journal.
Chinese scientists claim that the coronavirus appeared in India-Bangladesh before it spread to Wuhan, China. During the intense heat in the region last year, humans and wildlife could spread the virus by drinking water from the same source. They also have proof.
The study said that from May to June 2019, a record second longest hurricane hit North-Central India and Pakistan. As a result, there was a terrible water crisis in the region. Due to the lack of water, wild animals like monkeys fought fiercely with each other and of course this increased the chances of human-wildlife contact.
The Chinese team used phylogenetic analysis to find the source of the coronavirus. According to them, the least mutated form may be the original form of the virus.
Based on this idea, Chinese researchers claim that the first coronavirus infection did not occur there. Places like India or Bangladesh, where less mutated virus samples have been found, may be the real source.
Besides India and Bangladesh, the Chinese researchers also named Russia, Greece, Serbia, Australia, Italy, the United States and the Czech Republic as possible sources of corona.
Many experts do not agree with this claim of Chinese researchers. David Robertson, head professor of the Department of Viral Genomics and Bioinformatics at the University of Glasgow, described the Chinese scientists’ research paper as very flawed.
He said the authors’ approach to identifying minimally modified virus sequences is inherently biased. The authors have avoided data on the extent of the epidemic, so that the emergence and spread of the virus in China can be clearly seen.
