Biden to ask US Supreme Court to block Texas abortion ban

The Biden Administration will ask the Supreme Court to block
the ban on abortions in Texas. This new law bans abortion once a heartbeat is
detected in the womb.

Last month, the US Supreme Court decided in a 4:5 vote
against intervention to block the highly restrictive Texas law. This law will
go against the landmark Supreme Court case of 1973 which gave a woman’s legal
right to an abortion.

The “Texas Heartbeat Act” allows the public to sue doctors
and anyone who helps in the abortions taking place once a heartbeat is detected
– around 6 weeks of pregnancy. Persecutors can be rewarded with up to $10000
USD.

This law makes no exception for victims of rape of incest.

If the Supreme Court overturns the 1973 landmark case,
confirming its conservative drive, then every state would legally have the
right to ban or allow abortions.

Thousands of women have protested across the country earlier
this month, proclaiming their reproductive rights.
